Essential Elements of Family Child Care
Essential Elements of Family Child Care is an educational program designed for
newly licensed providers and as a refresher in many of the business elements of
owning and operating a family child care business.
Created
and administered by the
Minnesota Licensed Family Child Care Association is the perfect way to learn
how to build your child care business. Classes offered include:

Each participant will have the opportunity to take Infant
Toddler Training Intensive classes and be provided an experienced family
child care provider-mentor throughout the series of training. The mentor
will answer questions, provide resource information, plus teach goal-setting
and problem-solving skills. It is preferred that the students be licensed
less than two years, but not mandatory.
You will be asked to commit to the
following:
- 16 hours. of training at 2 hours per
week.
- A minimal amount of hands-on homework in
your child care business.
- Feedback on each module/class to help
design a series of classes that is being offered statewide and to evaluate
its effectiveness.
- Attend 10 hours of ITTI Training
For this commitment you will earn 26 hours of training credit ---16 hours of
Essential Elements plus 10 hours of ITTI- -- and get resources including
business publications. Exact titles of publications will depend on local
funding and grants available at the time.
You will be assigned an experienced family child care provider as your
Mentor to help you during the period you are attending these classes.
